Re: Think twice before purchasing Eastwest PLAY

Stories like the one Marty tells are just infuriating. Unlike Spectrasonics tech support which, I can attest, DO work with you (I've had over 24 emails or so regarding various issues, basically all of which have been resolved promptly), looks like East West rubs it in your face if you have a problem. "Your computer isn't powerful enough"? "Buy one from Vision DAW"? That's flat out insulting, and I empathize with you.

I wouldnt be surprised if East West admitted that PLAY interface has actually been programmed by Doug Rogers or Nick Phoenix... ( they probably took 2 weeks of C++ programming lessons ) great musicians but not so great computer programmer

PLAY is not as bad as you guys make it out to be. you need a Quad Core or Power Mac and at least 8 gigs of ram running 64 bit with 64 bit sequencer.

Too bad Eastwest didn't say that to begin with. I would have then known to wait until I get a new DAW.

Should be running smoothly with that rig. If not, make sure you are in contact with tech support and we'll get it sorted out for you. Issues with Omnisphere should be the exception rather than the rule at this point:

There are problems with PLAY. Indeed the latest release caused even more problems than it fixed and was removed.

I am very happy for those who have got it to work. However, I find it insulting that it somehow seems to be acceptable to release beta software, expect people to pay for it in good faith and then ignore or even censor complaints.

BTW - I have a powerful enough system, have done the tech support thing and will never purchase another EWQL product.

Same here. Won't be spending money on EWQL either (unless they go back to kontakt perhaps).

I worry of PLAY future because in most case a badly designed software has a big chance to stay bad nomatter how many patchs you make.... They should restart from scratch :/

One thing that's even worst about this is that you can no longer buy the SUPERIOR NI Versions of QLSO or other products. But, now i found out i find out i need at LEAST 8 GB of ram for play AND a 64-bit oS?!?!?. So i cant really run my Silver PLAY without spending money for 8 GB of RAM ?!?! If anyone from East West reads this:GET YOUR STUPID PLAY SOFTWARE TOGETHER AND IF YOU CANT, STOP SELLING IT or least bring back the NI version so i can buy the Gold Bundle. I waited 1 stikin year to have the money for Gold and when i finally do,there's only the crappy PLAY version to buy.
    QLSO Silver Bundle (Kompakt Player)
    Silver Complete PLAY
    Gold Complete PLAY
FL Studio 7 and 8 Demo versions
    HP Pavillon a1110y
    Win XP Home
    504 MB Ram

    Wishlist:

More RAM to be able to use for play
Cash to hire some more musicans/ buy more RAM

Re: Think twice before purchasing Eastwest PLAY

I do not have any issues with PLAY Platinum nor with Fab Four and I run them on both AMD Athlon PC and Mac Pro 2.66 each with 4 gigs of RAM. However, I have not updated PLAY with the most recent version- and I use Logic8 and Sonar7 mostly.
