Hi Ted,
Thanks, Ted. As I said earlier, this little piece was
brought to mind by a concept in physics involving
an almost mystical connection between particles
at any distance from each other... but the metaphor
for many human relationships was an obvious fit.
Entanglement isn't necessarily a bad thing... lol --As you musically captured with your composition, being entangled is like being caught in a sticky web, (seemingly) unable to escape. Actually, I would say that, for me, this piece captures the acceptance or (better yet) "complete resignation" of being entangled in a situation where no escape is to be found (at the moment). I say this because it seems that when most people find themselves initially entangled in a situation, there's a sense of panic and heightened anxiety. This piece seems to represent a more "resigned" feeling with the uncomfortableness of being entangled, minus that initial panic and heightened anxiety.
sometimes it's best just to ride with it. Too much
struggle just wraps the web tighter.
Generally with these little color pieces (not always) I startThere are many, many things that I sincerely admire about your works, David. One of them is your ability to musically represent the title of the "story". To my ears, your music faithfully tells the story as initially presented by the title.
with a firm concept in mind, well defined subject matter. The
fit to the subject will usually just follow naturally enough
if that's what you're thinking about while writing.
It depends where you're going with a piece, Ted.(Now. . . this is the complete opposite of what I do for my music and titles! LOL! I would be completely happy with titling each composition "Composition #1", Composition #2, etc., etc. . . LOL!)
Some pieces, one's following a given idea... but
others are explorations of themselves, vehicles we
use to delve into a certain as yet undefined area.
Comments like that do my heart good, Ted. If youAs a listener, I enjoyed hearing the story that you told. This time, it's a very focused story about the experience of being caught in some uncompromising situation where there seems to be no escape. I always enjoy listening to your compositional stories. As a "student in composition", I am left with much more knowledge in how music can be cleverly created and orchestrated to represent a very specific mood or emotional reality. Such learning is precious, David.
walk away from a piece with something you didn't
have before, then I've been doing my job.
A little late on my part, but likewise, my friend, all goodTHANK YOU for sharing your music. I followed the listening while reading your pdf score. Very cool!
Warm regards to you and your family. . . I mean it literally, too! This is crazy, crazy weather that we're having in the north east!
Peace. . .![]()
things going forward into this New Year!
With that, I agree completely, Ted -- there's always anTed
(By the way. . . from a purely philosophical point of view, I sincerely believe that one can find his/her way out of most entanglement-type situations given the proper time, appropriate choices and support. I guess I'm just a hopeful kind of person. . . LOL!)
upward path!
Many thanks for listening and for taking so much thought
with this little piece!
All my best,
David
