Topic: A Christmas Moment

    A Christmas Moment

Every Christmas my family wants me,.. prods me, ..demands….not sure which, to write original Christmas music; this year is no exception.
I’m writing three Christmas type pieces this year, two orchestrated, one for piano. Whether I have time to actually get them done remains to be seen. Between decorating, parties, other social events, it gets hard to just sit down and compose.

I love the Christmas season however, every Christmas I go out with a friend and we play the recorder and autoharp together. We go up and down the streets all the while bringing out very appreciative people from their homes.

I started this tradition back in 1985 in Vancouver B.C. People would show their appreciation by throwing all kinds of gifts and treats at us, including beer cans (which were full, not empty) and by the end of the serenading the music got a bit funky—dare I say almost atonal. But it was great fun.

Anyway, back to the moment; I wrote the piano piece a couple days ago and rendered it last night. I’ll be playing it at my own Christmas party this weekend, so off I go to practice.
No great endeavor here, it’s just a light fluffy piece---kind of like the snow falling outside my window at present. May it brighten your season a bit.

    A very nice piece.

Although it is light and fluffy it condures a very dark feeling within me. But later turns in a nice warm feeling
Good to hear from you again.

    Mr. Cass,

Your link returns a "Stack overflow at line: 16" and will not play your music. (?)

Very interesting piece, Cass, in its traversal of moods
and colors -- not to mention a fine performance.

And it does have that certain ineffable... something...
that speaks of the drama and spirit of Christmas. The
implied recognition in the material that there's much
greater depth to this event is well taken.

    Very well done!

    All the best,

    Well done Cass.

That has some interesting tonal twists in it.
I kept waiting for the strings to come in for some reason, haha.

    Very nice.
    Thanks for the listen.

This has a great variety of feelings and moods, much like the Christmas season. I hear the falling snow but I hear the happy moments, the reflective times, and the dramatic anticipation. Well Done, Cass. Well done.

And may I add some fine piano playing too!

Well done indeed, Cass. This manages to be somehow Christmassy without being cheesy. It's actually quite capricious and there is indeed also a dark element to the music, as other have also pointed out.

I liked the change of moods and could hear different influences throughout.

It was a different take on Christmas. Thought provoking.

    Great ideas and playing.
