    Garritan Steinway/Sonar 8 Problem...

    All,

I am using the Garritan Authorized Steinway (Basic) piano as a VST plugin in Sonar 8. When my music files end, the CPU meter jumps to 100 percent and stays there until I activate the Sonar Reset (Panic) button.

Does anyone know what causes this and what I can do to prevent it? I have tried inserting an all-notes-off CC at the end of the file plus a zero value of CC 07. Neither solves the problem.

    Thanks,

    Larry Alexander

    Hi Larry.

Can you tell me whether or not activating/deactivating the effects (ambiance, resonance, etc), influences this cpu spike?

I haven't tried adjusting all of these controls but I will now do that and get back to you. It will obviously take a bit of time.

Thanks for your help, Mr. David.

    Re: Garritan Steinway/Sonar 8 Problem...

    Mr. David,

I have narrowed the problem down to the equalizer section of the Aria player. Actually, the file doesn't have to be at the end to cause the CPU spike. Stopping it, at any point, during playback will instigate the spike. (?)

No other Aria component seems to be the culprit.

The same problem also exists when I insert the Garritan Authorized Steinway in Sonar 7.

Others have suggested that it is probably a "denormal" problem. Check this link:

Thanks in advance for your help.

I am still experiencing this problem so I am bumping this message.

I have tried the Garritan Authorized Steinway in Sonar versions 6, 7 and 8 and the spike problem exists in all three.

The spike happens only if I utilize the equalization section of the Aria player.

    Hi

Indeed looks like a the filters in the EQ are denormalizing, ive reproduced the issue
in the standalone. Will investigate for a fix in next version.

    Thanks for the report.

Your solution to the spiking problem seems to have solved the problem, Mr. David. The new dll file worked perfectly after I installed it.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.
