L'espoir : Played on my new Steinway

    Hi everyone,

Again I apologize for my absence here in the Listening Room. In between battles I have managed to 'complete' a piano work that I would like to dedicate to both Jack (Rhap2) and of course Gary.

I have been playing with the new Steinway and I am simply thrilled with it. I am still having some trouble to control it the way I want it, especially the dynamics, but it is such a delight to work with.

This piece is a short fantasie called «L'espoir» ("hope" in English) and it simply shows my excitement with this wonderful instrument. It is only lightly tonal, and nothing like the competition piece I composed to win this instrument. I guess you could say that I "let the hair down" for a while....

    L'espoir

If you want to see the score, which is not yet done completely, you can find it here.

I hope you will enjoy it.
    Thank you.

It is always an honor to be a dedicatee. Thank your for this
    generous favor.

The rhythmic changes, scale passages, and arpeggiation in this piece
are really enhancing, but the dynamic levels you have provided with
    your new Steinway are awesome.

Louis, this piece was very well written and awesomely played
with your "Basic" Steinway. You are, indeed, a student of musical
perfection and your recent musical offerings have shown much
    improvement and maturity.

Thanks again for submitting this piece and for the honors you have
bestowed on myself and Gary and be assured your obvious love
for your new instrument and what you are doing with it was the
sole purpose of the recent competition.

Hi Louis, Wow, this piece really is delightful! As Jack said, you really are giving the dynamic levels a workout with this. I especially loved some of those upper lines, great writing and rendering. This beautiful piece gives me new "hope" too, that we may all rise again. Thank you! John

Lovely. I certainly like this music, the combination of tonality and atonality, which is what I always have difficulty with, and have been very much impressed by the sound. Very natural and vivid.

Thanks for listening, Mike. I have here the basic version of the Steinway. It is simply a delightful instrument. Very responsive and powerful, and yet can sound splendidly delicate.
