    Piano Concerto 1 Movement 3

    Well Hello again!

I have finished the 3rd movement of my first piano concerto!

Please take the time to listen to the 1st movement if you haven't already had the chance, and please let me know what you think!

    1st movement thread:

    http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/...ad.php?t=64326

I wrote this 3rd movement with great inspiration from discovering Rachmaninoff's piano concertos 2 & 3. I can honestly say that no other pieces of music have had such impact on me, and that I hold both of these concertos very close to my heart.

I cannot read music, and the following was composed completely by ear with me playing my midi keyboard and editing in Cubase Sx. I do not use a notation program.

I thoroughly enjoyed writing this piece, and hope you enjoy listening to it!

Comments and constructive criticisms greatly appreciated!

P.S. The second movement is completely finished in my head, and I cannot wait to get started in composing it.

Totally amazing music. I wish more people will listen to this and comment here. Your orchestration is fantastic. It is even more amazing that you don't read music, I simply cannot comprehend how you would create such a complex piece with no score in front of you..... Indeed beautifully recorded. You seem to have a very deep understanding of the romantic piano concerto. It is a brilliant piece and your third movement is a very exciting ending. Good luck with the second movement. Thank you.
    Kind Regards

Hi Matt, This was a most impressive movement and very entertaining!
I liked the bit at about 3 mins. in where it almost came to a stop. Nice work on this, and a great recording too. I look forward to the rest. John

Thanks for the replies thus far!

I am currently a student so don't have too much time to compose at the moment

I really love to do it and hope to put in some serious hours this summer

    Matt:

The third movement has "Rachmaninoff" written all over it. In fact,
some of the progressions are fairly well exact.

Your orchestration is really great and you have excellent ideas Matt.
What is really outstanding is your presentation (rendering). It really
sells your musical ideas and arrangement of such.

    Great third movement, Matt.

    Thanks for the compliment!

In all honesty when I'm writing its a lot of trial and error, I compose and render until I get just the right sound I want. I start with a general musical idea and build on it as I go, I have great fun composing this way!
