Hi folks,

After playing quite some time with different sample libraries, I am coming more and more to the impression that ambient recordings sound better than close mic settings with reverb added (I havn't tried BDMO, yet). Of course, this is also a matter of taste, so I'd like to find out what it actually is that I like from ambient recordings and what I dislike from closed mics. Is it possible that the instrument's properties (including resonance of different parts of the instrument) are best captured from a certain distance? If this were true, the most versatile samples would be recorded from some distance, but within a very dry room (studio), so that reverb can be added as the user likes.

Am I completely wrong?
