Bristol, CT - In a surprise announcement today, OEC Corp of Bristol, CT
announced it will purchase Garritan Corp of Orcas, WA. OEC Corp., a software
development firm headed by David Sosnowski, will purchase intellectual property
rights, product inventory and distribution, and trademark rights from Garritan Corp.
Sosnowski declined to reveal the purchase price, but industry sources indicate
the takeover is non-hostile. Gary Garritan, current head of Garritan Corp., will
remain on staff as telephone support specialist.
"We felt Gary was headed down the wrong path," said Sosnowski. "His emphasis on
orchestral sound samples is a thing of the past. Our team of software specialists
will gradually migrate the products to the head-banging, soul-crunching, gut-
wrenching synthetic sounds that are at the heart of today's music."
The acquisition of Garritan Corp. by OEC Corp. is reportedly to be completed by
December 21, 2012. Negotiations are also rumored to be underway with a German
firm to sub-contract support and replace the aging ARIA player.
Gary Garritan was unavailable for comment.
