    For spectrasonics

Has anyone at Spectrasonics tested with the new Mac processor yet?

If so what are you findings as far as performance?

A thread has already been started on this
    http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/...ad.php?t=65565

And you've posted in that thread

So why start another thread that's like an existing thread.

Why is this bothering you so much?

I am about to dump alot of money into one of these new Macs and I like others want to know things are going to work with it.

If I dont get a response then I try and try again.

But thanks for pointing out that I have posted this before.

Re. "If I dont get a response then I try and try again."

It bothersome because it fragments responses and discussions, and it ticks off respondents.....that's why. Double and triple posts by the same person about the same thing are frowned upon at every forum to which I belong, so perhaps you'll reconsider your approach? Hope that answers one of your questions..............playz

if you reply to an old thread
    http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/...ad.php?t=65565
it gets moved to the top of the list of threads. Bump an old thread.

Creating a new thread with a new subject title but the same content as a previous thread, you'll just piss people off where noone will answer you.

If you want help, follow the rules.

    Re: For spectrasonics

Still waiting for them to call me back. But I have had feed back from some friends actually (within the last few hours). The 2.26 does not run Omni and other sigle core software well at all. I dont know about the 2.66 yet though
i did hear from another poster that the 2.93 does run them well, but I just cant seem to justify the xtra 2G's for the upgrade.

However Newegg.com had the 2.93 processors for $550 each, so i am wondering how easy it would be to just get the 2.26, upgrade the processors from newegg then try and sell the 2.26's

    Re: For spectrasonics

Hmm, I think you may have been looking at the wrong proc:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819117180

There's a lot of speculation that's been going on about these new Nehalem chips and audio software. MOTU says things are okay, EastWest just released an update to fix things, Digi and Steinberg are currently throwing up warning flags, etc. Several companies are still silent about the issue.

What I still have not seen a definitive answer about is where the issue lies. A lot of people have been guessing it's the hyper-threading in the new cpus which is causing the problem. If that is the case, one can easily disable hyperthreading with the developer tools that come with every new Mac. In a way, this makes sense. If single-threaded audio plugins are really getting 60% of a single core (so on the 2.26ghz, an effective clock speed of 1.35ghz), the system could very easily be seen as underperforming.

It's also worth noting that if the problem does in fact lie with hyper-threading, there isn't any reason why one Nehalem should currently work better than any others; the 2.66/2.93 will be speedier of course.

I'll be setting up an octo-2.66 for a client this weekend, and will tackle some of these issues head-on. I would suggest to anyone who already owns a Nehalem system: open activity monitor, get the cpu meters up, and watch what's really going on.

Finally, as to the original intent of this thread, I will be setting up Omnisphere and RMX as well, and will report back my findings.
