    JABB-"Hope"-A Short Jazz Tune

    Hi Guys and Gals,

This is my first posting of a piece. I'm posting it here in The Listening Room in case some of you didn't get the chance to peek in on the Orchestrational Challenge No. 20 (this was Entry No. 5). If you've already heard it, thanks for having listened to it .

In a nutshell, "Hope" is the result of creating a piece from a motif that Randy B. created for the challenge (E-F-D-E-C-D-G, beginning on the up-beat), along with a maximum six instrument, two minute time limitation. The motif needed to reoccur throughout the piece, and the feeling of hope was the target emotion.

    "Hope" ... http://www.wizardwalk.com/duel2/Entry05_Chall20.mp3

Info on this piece can be viewed at this link, about halfway down the page and titled ORCHESTRAL CHALLENGE No. 20, ENTRY No. 5 – “HOPE” – A JAZZ PERSPECTIVE …

Thanks for listening ... any comments or feedback are most welcome .

    Regards,

    Frank

.... and this piece was just the piece I chose.

Great stuff, Frank. Reminded me of Thelonious Monk and the Jazz Messengers.

Hey FrankD, ya did put it up! Sounds great! Very nicely renedered and the mix is great. It's got that 'room' sound to it, makes you feel like you're in the same room as the players. I'm just getting where I take more notice of Combo jazz and this is a really nice piece. We got to get together and compare notes and give our guys names! Next time, let's talk about recording the bass. That's a tricky one for me. Yours sounded good, anything special you do?

    Very well done Frank.

Just remember that second place is still a loser.

Just kidding of course. This was a great entry and I am sure it made people think hard before voting.

Well, Raymond, you flatter me ... I always loved the lyricism and out-and-out quirkiness to Monk's compositions and playing ... I did want "Hope" to be fanciful.

I'm still trying to work my way through your magnum opus, so having you listen to (and vote for, no less!) my humble, two minute excursion is very meaningful to me ... Thank You

    Regards,

    Frank
