    Tribute to Prima

Here is a piece I did for the fun of it for our brass sextet. It is a collection of songs either written or performed by Louis Prima. I thought this community might like to listen, so enjoy my:

What a fun and interesting project, Bill. Louis Prima was quite a character, and the re-release of his greatest hits awhile back became a well-deserved best seller.

Prima in a Brass Band setting--! Neat. Rendering-wise, it was swimming a bit too much in reverb for my ears, mushing together what would be best be a very tight jazzy sound ala Prima.

    Nonetheless, I enjoyed!

rbowser - Hi and thanks for listening. Yes, it was a bit strong in the reverb. I took the default setting. Per your discussion I treated it to a perforamce in a jazz club and came up with this rendering which seems more apropos:

    Jazz Club: Tribute to Prima

I think this works much better, thanks to your attentention to detail.

    Thanks Randy,

    Best Regards, Bill

Great tribute to Louie. Your arrangements were really good.

Louie was a character and so was his brother, Leon. When I
was a baby, I lived next door to Louie when he lived on Long
Island, N.Y. His mother used to baby sit me and my twin brother.
Couldn't get used to him blowin' away (practicing) next door,
but I really wasn't conscious of his professional status in those days.

Visited his mom many years later when she lived in New Orleans.
Leon owned and operated "Prima's 500 Club" on Bourbon Street. He
had me as his guest for one evening during my visit and we talked
about my dad and the old days of really good orchestras and
the men who played in them.

    Thanks for the memory, Bill.

Randy - Yes, I think it made the brass sound clearer - it was fun to put together.

Jack - thanks for sharing your memories of Louis Prima. What a thrill to live so close to him and the story of his mother being you and your twin brother's baby-sitter, WOW! I too have a twin brother, but our baby-sitter was an unknown. Thanks for listening and for sharing your memory. This is one of the reasons I love this forum, real people!

    Thanks all,

    Re: Tribute to Prima

Bill, Thanks for posting and sharing your arrangement of some of Louie Prima's songs. I was introduced to him by my late father in law, with whom I spent many many enjoyable hours listening to his music collection. There are so many great and fun songs in the Prima catalog. I was struck by how great an entertainer he was, and always thought he had fantastic timing on his vocals.
He could really deliver a song! I really enjoyed your renderings, they brought on some happy memories for me. John
