A 30 Second Fanfare - from my new show

Recently an old friend of mine, Tom Morrison, has started to collaborate with me on a new stage musical. He lives in England and we're working together via every online tool we can find, like Box and ASCAP's eSession.

Most of the show is being scored for a smallish pop-combo, but there are segments which will utilize pre-recorded tracks.

It's far too early to talk about the show's specifics, but the general milieu of the show is early 1940's America.

This is a fanfare of the sort that played during the titles of newsreel footage shown in movie theatres during that era. There's a slight touch of whimsy to the sound track's style because this show is to be a fairly light musical comedy--ENough with the heavy "Dorian" style drama!

    This is all pure Garritan:

That's great Randy ... isn't it fun to switch gears after long projects in another genre? I know it is for me. It's so liberating.

This was right up my alley; you've captured the style you were shooting for admirably.

Looking forward to more of the "Lighter Side of Bowser"

    Regards,

    Frank

I think you hit your target with this - I can almost hear the words over top. So, when it gets to that point are you going to be posting your new project here? Or at least the parts using Garritan products?

You've hit the feel of those 40's newsreels dead on the
    mark, Randy.

    Nice job on this!

You don't sit still much, do you... rofl -- moving right
along to the next one. Good speed with it, my friend.

I won't wish you luck, as you have no need whatever
of it when it comes to writing.

    All my best,

    David

Thanks much for taking the time to write your response, Frank - Ooh there's actually a great deal of the "Lighter Side of Bowser," but "Dorian" has so permeated the Forum it's what comes to people's minds first, I'm sure, when they think of what's most typically my kind of music.

Collaborator Tom and I are very early in the process of writing this show, but bits and dabs are coming together, such as this newsreel style theme music cue. As we go on, I'll post more bits from the show.

    Thanks again, Frank.

It's also a pretty danged good march. If it were augmented lengthwise, it would be a very good march.

I was expecting a voice telling "you are there" - very realistic and convincing evocation of the style. I trust we will see/hear this in installments over the coming months?

    Lots of fun, Randy!

Loved your fanfare and almost expected to hear
    "this is Lowell Thomas reporting....."
Best of luck with your new musical! John

Randy - I listened first and my initial reaction was this a newsreel attention grabber from the 1940's. Low behold, that was your exact intention. It's perfect!

Great writting and rendering as usual.

    best regards,
    Bill
