    OT-Need some help with titles

I spent quite some hours searching for deciphering some titles of my very old midi-files. I simply cannot get that original website anymore and searching the Internet didn't give me the right answers (only for some of the titles).

It is all Jazz and played by Art Tatum (or similar performers) - solo.
I am still puzzled about the following cryptic names of the midi files:

    CarleMed (probably a medley)
    Carshout
    FBreak
    FBust
    Ifdreams
    Jdrums
    Offgrass
    Overbars
    Rhthborn
    Roygarbl
    Rtlgwtrs
    Rusfant
    Smshthrd
    Timegoby
    Valstomp
    Washlee

you see the eight character files names, must have been from those good old DOS days!!!!!

Any help will be very appreciated,

    Raymond

Puzzling--Literally, a Puzzle. So these were the names someone gave the MIDI files which made sense to him at the time, but due to the limitations for file names at the time he titled them, we're left with word games to figure out. Interesting.

The only one that easily jumped out was:

    Timegoby

--"As Time Goes By." - As for the rest - I would be opening them up and playing "Name That Tune!" with my friends. After an evening of fun and frolic, I bet all the files would be identified!

    Hello moderator,

I just saw that I posted this message in the wrong area. I think a better place is General. Can you move this thread?

Lallis thanks, probably you are right.

If I were to take a guess, FBreak and FBust are in the key of F, consequently, Jdrums would have to be in the key of J!

This only exists in the 12-tone system (haha)

    Hey Raymond,

CarleMed - Carleton (Bob) Medley (his most famous tune is Ja-Da)
Carshout - Carolina Shout (James P. Johnson, stride standard)
FBreak - as indicated, probably some short, fast piece in F
FBust - as indicated, probably some short, fast, more difficult piece in F
Ifdreams - If Dreams Come True (James P. Johnson)
Jdrums - Jungle Drums (James P. Johnson, stride standard)
    Offgrass Keep Off the Grass
Overbars - Over the Bars (James P. Johnson)
Rhthborn - That's How Rhythm was Born (J. C. Johnson, associate of Fats, written for the Boswell Sisters)
    Roygarbl Royal Garden Blues
Rtlgwtrs - Rustling Waters??? (probably a variation of Willie "the Lion" Smith's Rippling Waters)
Rusfant - Russian Fantasy (Fats Wller)
Smshthrd - Smashing Thirds (Fats Waller, stride standard)
    Timegoby As Time Goes By
Valstomp - Valentine Stomp (Fats Waller)
    Washlee Washington and Lee Swing

    Have fun,
    Darwin

That was very, very fast and most helpful. Thank you Darwin. There are guys who simply have an encyclopaedia between their ears.
