    Surfin The Milky Way

    Surfin The Milky Way

I have been working on this for the last three days.

    http://www.box.net/shared/5y490hpi0h

Again there are only 8 tracks in the song:

    2 Synth ~ 1 synth bass

    5 GPO tracks;

    Cellos
    Violas
    Violins
    French Horns
    Trombones

I found a sound bank I liked on one of the synths, set the tempo on it and wrote the song around it.

    Howdy, Aram

Wow - You're in a prolific period, this one arriving on the heels of your last post. Good for you!

Aptly titled recording- Definitely in outer space, surfing the Milky Way in my Astral body with this one.

When you take one of these big, stately chord based washes of sound and then add a lead line on top of it, it really kicks things up to the next level. It's Buckshead who's laid Guitar tracks on your stuff before, right? I think this one is ripe for that kind of development.

Neat. Thanks for the cosmic flash.

Thanks Randy. With all the new samples I have when I find a sound bank I like it's like the song writes itself.

I was just watching Cosmos, so this was very appropriate and would have fit well into that show.

I also would like to see a lead line thrown down on top of it whether it be guitar or what I hear, a solo violin and then perhaps an Oboe.

    Thanks Ron.

I am working on a violin to go with the ghosted French Horn lead. I'll do an Oboe also and see what it sounds like.

This is another one of those tracks you have to crank up to hear everything I put in it.

I like this. I think Ron's reference to Cosmos is a good one - I haven't seen it since it was actually on TV for the first time, but this is the type of music I remember in the background.

Nice job Hippie. Excellent rendering with the instruments, and beautiful synthesizer sounds. You mesmerized me. Great for anyone riding through space, or watching a discover channel special on space.

    Thanks Tuba.

I record everything in stand alone one track at a time. I do all my editing and effects on the mixing board.

Hippie, this was wonderfully relaxing. After hearing Ron's and your pieces, I definitely have to take time out and experiment with synths. I love the sound and tone color you both achieve which of course you can't get with orchestra alone. I hope you don't find this offensive, but this piece is a dead-ringer for a Vangelis CD but at the same time uniquely your own creation. But I might add, I love Vangelis's music. Wonderful job here, Hippie.
