    Kathy's Song (She is Beauty)

Ballad from the musical, "Street Thunder"

Here is a new link - hopefully at a higher volume.

    http://www.box.net/shared/static/9azum74dra.mp3

In her world of snow-white horses,
    Golden knights and crystal towers,
Shining rainbows filled with jewelled stars,
mystic orbs and magic powers -

    Chorus:
She looks for beauty in a world she barely knows,
She looks for beauty in all the places where she goes,
She looks for beauty, she looks for beauty.

In the world of real-life horses,
    Golden knights are sometimes tarnished,
shining rainbows often turn to rain and
Magic powers are all in vain -

    Chorus:
She still finds beauty in a world she barely knows,
She stll finds beauty in the souls of those she knows,
She still finds beauty, she still finds beauty.

    With a unicorn beside her,
from her quest she'll not depart,
for the wondrous thing she seeks is hidden
    Deep within her heart -

    Chorus:
She is beauty in a world she barely knows,
She is beauty, it will shine where'er she goes,
She is beauty, she is beauty.

Hey Tom, Is this your work or from a musical?
Either way, the music sounds very good. The only thing I would suggest is to increase the overall volume level of the recording.
The violin intro and ending is a beautiful touch.
    Much enjoyed the listen.

Thank you, Michael. The song is from a musical I wrote a few years ago for a high school cast. I've been playing with some of the material of late and using only Garritan samples. It needed to be simple musically for the young singers were newly formed. You are quite correct about the volume, some how I lost several levels when I converted from .wav to .mp3 - I need to explore that.

Hi, Tom - How fun to hear something from your musical - now there's a genre right up my alley.

Michael was gently accurate - I could barely hear it. Turned everything up way beyond what I've probably ever had it - still very faint. darn.

There shouldn't be any signal loss like that in going from .wav to MP3 - Something previous to that has to be going wrong. Whatever mixer you have in your app has to show if a signal is strong enough or not.

It seemed pretty though, what I could catch. I wasn't sure I was following what the melody is for the chorus. But it seems to be a sweet fairy tale kind of piece, and what I could catch I enjoyed.

As I often say, the music I can write, it's the software that kills me. Oddly, the .wav file has plenty of volume as does the CD. I'll keep playing with it.

The piece is not the fairy tale it first seems; Kathy is a beautiful character trapped in a world of fantasy. Her tragic death is a turning point for the other characters in the story.

Lovely song, Tom -- and especially well suited in
both general simplicity and intervalic construction
    to younger, less experienced voices.

    Well done!

    My best,

Very nice. The simplicity you created for the inexperienced high school voices is part of the charm.

However - I do agree with randy that it is way too quiet - I had my system cranked up.

Thank you for listening, David. Writing for young, inexperienced voices is a major pleasure.

Thank you for responding. I am trying to find out what made it so quiet. It sounds fine on the CD and in the .wav file. Your input is greatly appreciated.

I also had to crank everything up and still could barely hear it.

I didn't read all of the replies, but I use Audacity (it's free) to get my final volume and it has always worked well for me.

I also think that a little more reverb might enhance this some.
