    Alligator Alley

The piece uses 4 instruments (all synths) from Native Instruments Kore (which is free) and 6 instruments (guitars and such) from Independence Free (which is also free) and 13 instruments from GPO (all of the orchestral instruments). I did all of the work in Sonar 8 PE.

I haven't completely made up my mind between calling this Alligator Alley or The Jungles of Ganymede. Any preference? I know that there are probably no jungles on Ganymede, but this moon of Jupiter may have life on it. No one really knows what lies beneath its many kilometers thick icy surface.

I am also still tweaking the mix so it will probably change a little from day to day. Any suggestions about the mix? I was thinking about EQ'ing the brass a little more to give it a brighter feel.

I think this is Way fun, Ron - And I vote for the Ganymede title. There's something strikes me as too corny with "Alligator Alley."

You're doing so great layering in all these multiple libraries - And I especially love the sense of humor that comes through this otherwise kind of creepy sounding thing you've brewed up here.

    Nice work--thanks!

    Randy

I think I like the Jungles better myself.

I would have mixed this one to death as usual except I finally started something new tonight. It's as corny as can be but it keeps my mind occupied and not dwelling on other matters.

I love that I can tweak a mix for 4 or 5 hours and then when I am done, I can't tell the mixes apart. I think I am just in another odd mood.

    Thanks

    Hi Ron,

A very effective piece. You have become a master of complex textures. For titles, I would opt for 'The Jungles of Ganymede'. The mix sounds great to me; also the percussion; also the 'growling'.

    Best Regards,

Jungles of Ganymede, definitely. I'm sure there are some Io like volcanoes under the ice to create some steamy jungles.... and this is steamy....

I like this one. In my opinion it is your best synth/GPO mix yet. Interesting ending...

    Re: Alligator Alley

    Hello to you Ron;
I enjoyed your mix of samples and instruments from the GPO and KORE libraries on these tracks! You have a good handle on their use and it makes for an interesting, if eclectic, mix. I have a similar library of the KORE sounds and find them to be of excellent quality. I've done a couple pieces with them and one is called "TranzPantz", to give you some notion of the content! However, since I got the GPO on board, I have only done work using it., forsaking all others! I will say the thought of mixing voice sources has crossed my mind, and in that, you are doing a bit of trailblazing, keep up the good work!
    Best regards,

    Another one I missed!

I love this. I would have to go with Alligator Alley, since I have driven through it a number of times. Next time I drive it, maybe I will make a CD for the car, with this piece on loop!

    Awesome writing, Ron!

    best wishes,
