    Night Flight

    This is what I have been working on. I still might add 1 or 2 more tracks but..........................

    EDIT.......... I just added Oboes and English Horns. I am now finished with this song. I am happy with it but I don't want to work on it any more.

    The title of this one is NIGHT FLIGHT.

    Here is what I put in it:

    My toys;

    1 synth doing the chords
    1 synth bass
    1 Moog doing the space lead in the back ground
    1 Moog bass

    GPO;

    1st Violins
    2nd Violins
    Violas
    Cellos
    French Horns
    Trombones
    Trumpet
    Bassoons
    Bass Clarinets
    Clarinets
    Oboe..............new just added
    English Horn.....new just added

    I played this so some of the instruments would come in early or late from the main chords on the melody, I wanted a sliding/rolling feel and I got it.

    Thank you Randy.

    I have been recording this for the last 3 days getting 3 to 4 hours sleep each night. I might try some more Woodwinds tomorrow or I might do yard work or clean out the cat box. LOL

    Nice rich and deep textures, choice chords and a more solid bass I've rarely heard, it made the ground move, under my feet, kinda rumbled and shook, seriously!
    So, that's great!
    Thank you for posting it!

    A very interesting and pleasing effect. It will be interesting to see what the additional instruments do for it. Certainly one of my favorites of your more recent compositions.

    Thanks Tom and Ron.

    I have a question for you two and Randy, what is it about this track that makes it the best so far? I want to know what I did so I can do it again.

    Re: Night Flight

    Hi, Aram - "...what is it about this track that makes it the best so far? I want to know what I did so I can do it again..."

    Now that's something we can all relate to. Sometimes factors combine in a mysterious way to make something especially effective, and we can't be certain Why that happened, or How we managed to create the circumstances where that happened.

    Reminds me of a famous anecdote about Sir Laurence Olivier. He'd just given a spectacular performance in a Shakespearean production. His friends rushed back stage to congratulate him. But they found the actor in a foul mood, raging around in his dressing room in despair. "What's the matter, Larry? That was just superb!" He replied, "I KNOW it was--But I don't know why!!!"

    I think in "Night Flight" there's an especially pleasing and effective choice of synth sounds, that's one factor. And the writing itself has a dynamic forward-moving drive to it that really propels it along nicely. I think that contrasts with several earlier pieces which are more mood setting and Grand. That doesn't make those "less" anything - but I think it's the way this piece contrasts those with its energy that makes it especially stand out.

    Thanks for your answer Randy. You know, I almost tossed this song in the trash.

    I'll just do what I do and feel and hope I hit another one like this.
