GPO4 problems - can you help?

    Hi all,

GPO4 is working fairly well on my iMac using Logic and Sibelius 6. BUT I have a general question and two problems:

Question: What is the difference between Standard and Notation banks? I could find nothing about this in the manual, sorry.

    Problem 1:
When I attempted to load any sort of clarinet, I could get the Notation version but the Standard version would not load.
I had a look in the appropriate folder (Applications/Music/Garritan Personal Orchestra 4/Banks/Standard/ and there was no CLR file there (as there was in the Notation bank).
I did a search for "CLR" and found the following: in Applications/Garritan Personal Orchestra 4/Banks/Standard/... (why does this other one exist, when I guided the installation to Applications/Music?).... and this folder contained only one file - the missing CLR one. So I copied it into the first Standard bank. This now contains a complete list identical to the Notation one.
I thought this had solved the problem, but no! When I try to load a Standard clarinet I still get nothing.

    Problem 2:
In Sibelius 6, strings do not respond to pizz/arco changes. They used to under the old Kontakt 2 Player.

Would appreciate any help you can give.

    Hi Terry,

I don't know the reasons why the locations and files didn't seem to install properly (are you on Vista--have you disabled UAC during install?), but notation patches respond to CC7 and CC11, whereas standards use the mod wheel.

In Sib 6, you may not yet have a sound set defined for GPO4 Aria that tells it what to do when it encounters that text. KP2 has an existing sound set. My Sib 6 upgrade is still in the mail, but hopefully Jon can step in and give you some advice on this.

    Best,
    Reegs

Check out pages 27, 49, 54 in the manual. The 'notation' program patches are specially configured for notation programs like Sibelius and Finale so eg have their key switches in a consistent place and have customised mappings from expression marks to midi code.

    Missing Standard Clarinet Instruments

I have exactly the same problem. There is no "CLR" bank in my Standard folder but there is one in the Notation folder. And so I couldn't load any standard clarinets at all.

Maybe one of your kind souls can email me the GPO.CLR.bank.xml file in your Standard folder?

    Re: Missing Standard Clarinet Instruments

    Hi

This is a known issue for OSX users:
The CLR bank in standard is forced installed on the system drive, so people who install the sounds elsewhere get this problem.

We are working on a solution.

I did some nosing around the xml and log files and I think I found the problem. The Aria log says that Aria could not find the various clarinets .sfz files, i.e. Aria is not following the folder paths correctly.

    Troubleshooting:

    (1) The missing GPO.CLR.bank.xml file was found in "~/Applications/Banks/Standard" in my system, but it should have been in the "Garritan Personal Orchestra 4/Banks/Standard" folder.

    (2) I tried copying/moving the GPO.CLR.bank.xml file from "~/Applications/Banks/Standard" to the "Garritan Personal Orchestra 4/Banks/Standard" folder but it didn't work out 'cuz the Aria player application and plugin were somehow still referencing to "~/Applications/Banks/Standard" for the clarinet instruments folder.

    (3) I then tried creating an alias (or shortcut in windows-speak) to the instruments folder in the "Garritan Personal Orchestra 4/Instruments" folder in "~/Applications/Banks/Standard" but it still didn't work. Both the Aria player application and plugin were not following the alias path to the instruments folder and so the clarinet instruments still couldn't work.

AND SO I'M STUCK NOW! There aren't any obvious file paths I can edit in the xml files that can solve this. Could anyone please help shed some light?

The reference path for the CLR standard bank is in the file:
    /Library/Preferences/com.Garritan.Personal Orchestra 4.plist.
You can send it to aria.support AT plogue.com and someone will fix the CLR path and send it back to you.

Outstanding, PascalM! I must have been so dumb to have forgotten to check the plist! I edited the path in the plist and everything works fine now.

    Here are all the steps:

    1. Copy GPO.CLR.bank.xml file from "~/Applications/Garritan Personal Orchestra 4/Banks/Standard" to "your_installed_directory/Garritan Personal Orchestra 4/Banks/Standard" folder

    2. Make a backup copy of /Library/Preferences/com.Garritan.Personal Orchestra 4.plist

    3. Use TextEdit to open /Library/Preferences/com.Garritan.Personal Orchestra 4.plist.

    4. Copy the file path string from one of the other instruments (eg from 1110 FLT) to 1130 CLR. There are 2 strings to copy, the first string and the third string in the 1130 CLR key.

    5. In the first string copied in step 4, amend the characters "FLT" (or whatever you chose) to "CLR". Save and exit TextEdit.

    6. Once you've tested everything to work fine, you can go ahead and delete the "Banks" folder in "~/Applications/Garritan Personal Orchestra 4/". You can also delete the backup plist you made in step 2.

    That's it!
