    GPO4-ARIA sfz Documentation

    Hello!

    These questions are directed at Gary and David but if anyone else knows the answers please chime in!

    Is there documentation available that details the sfz opcodes and parameters specific to ARIA?

    If not, is such documentation forthcoming?

    If not, is it not too laborious a task to glean such info from the xml/sfz files themselves (perhaps generous commenting exists)?

    Thanks!

    Re: GPO4-ARIA sfz Documentation

    If you look below in the thread "SFZ imported in ARIA..." David posted the parameters for editing SFZ targeting ARIA.

    I used it already and had good results converting SF2 to a SFZ loaded in ARIA:

    "
    A good template for SFZs that target the Aria Player would be something like this:

    <control>
    set_cc7=100
    set_cc10=64 //center

    <group>
    pan_oncc10=100
    pan_curvecc10=1 //internal curve (ARIA_CURVE_LINEAR_BIPOLAR)

    amplitude_oncc7=100
    amplitude_smoothcc7=50
    amplitude_curvecc7=4 //internal curve (ARIA_CURVE_CONCAVE)

    <region>
    sample=*sine //ARIA internal sine oscillator
    volume=-6

    As much as i would love to, sadly not anytime soon.

    There are talks about an official SFZ 3.0 Standards body board however, and i hope to cram as much of my opcodes in there. We started a WIKI, but its far from something we would want to publish.

    If you are serious in SFZ 2.X editing, What i suggest is getting a hold of this book:
    http://www.cakewalk.com/products/Books/Synthesizers.asp
    then analyze the GPO4 SFZs, and i would gladly explain some details on a case by case basis, given time.

    I have only started myself looking at the SFZ codes, but David's suggestion to get the book is spot on. Appendix has the op codes listed.
    You can also post on Cakewalk's instrument forum and Brock or Chad might answer your questions on SFZ. Brock (Tom) created a lot of tutorials on how to use Rapture and DimPro and Chad works at Cakewalk and has worked on the Cakewalk instruments. They use the SFZ format.

    Yes, Chad is a SFZ pro.
    I had a chance to have a long chat with him at NAMM about SFZ and its future.

    Well, I figured I'd just have to dig in and start poking around no matter what but I thought I'd ask. I'm already familiar with sfz and I'm betting that you were unrelenting in ensuring your additions were pretty much spec-ready so that will help immensely. Thanks for the offer for more explanation. I'll probably take you up on that at some point.

    Indeed all my SFZ additions have been (i hope) well thought of.
    Some of them also have been discussed with Rene and unofficially approved.
    I tried to avoid breaking other parsers, but its inevitable that they will complain about "unknown opcodes"
