    Imperil edward march-sousa

Here's another Sousa march dedicated to the British King Edward VII>

    Gotta love Sousa!

The professor that is over the Bands here at Berea College has been doing research into Sousa's orchestral works (non-marches that is)

Good stuff...I have never heard any of his other works, but if they are as good as his marches, then they are wonderful indeed.

    Thanks for sharing this!

    Thanks for listening, Paul.
Sousa fancied himself as a composer of musicals.
I made a recording of one of his Waltzes. You can find it at soundclick on my page.
Its name is La Reine de la mer.

Sadly, Sousa's non-march output is mostly unremarkable. Most of it sounds like Gilbert & Sullivan (which is, of course, what was "selling" at the time). There are some nice tunes and some fun programmatic pieces but he was at his best by far in the march idiom.
