Arrow Richard Wagner - Die Walküre, Magic Fire Music GPO4

The conclusion to Act III of Wagner's music drama Die Walküre has come to be known as the Magic Fire Music. In the final scene, the High God Wotan punishes his Valkyrie daughter, Brünnhilde, by removing her powers as a Goddess and placing her in a deep sleep on a rocky mountain top. She will be doomed to marry any man who wakes her. Brünnhilde is worried she'll be taken by a coward. Feeling some compassion for her, Wotan commands Loge, the fire God, to ignite a ring of magic fire around her and declares that only "one who does not fear my spear" may pass through the fire.

This brief synopsis doesn't begin to cover the complexity of this event in the plot, lol.

Here is, the Magic Fire Music.

Fantastic, Bill - My lady Kate and I had a great time gliding on your extremely well done flickers of flame this morning.

Those SAM Brass samples were just itching to get at some good ol Wagner, weren't they?

And thanks for the good synopsis of the opera's action at this point.

Once again as I listened, I had to think of how there surely isn't another composer who influenced film scores more. It's really something to think of, how this late 19th century bombastic style came back in such favor.

    Great - Thank you, valhalx.

Great Valhalx I enjoyed that a lot thanks!

The piece you chose contains one of the many forward-references to the theme in Siegfrieds Funeral March - have you ever done a render of that - if so I'd love to hear that too?!

Yeah. I've been wanting to do a Wagner demo for a long time, lol. Now it's possible.

Once again as I listened, I had to think of how there surely isn't another composer who influenced film scores more. It's really something to think of, how this late 19th century bombastic style came back in such favor.
It's a good point you make. Wagner has had a serious influence on many movie composers. His music fuses all the elements of drama into a single expression. He called it "total artwork". No wonder movie composers study him, his music reinforced what was happening in the story and even explored the psychological dimension. And Mahler's influence is starting to be heard as well.

    Thanks,

    Bill

Thanks, sd. I've been having a ball with Sam's Brass. Magic Fire Music and Star Wars wouldn't have been the same without them.

    Very nice work on this.

What reverb are you using in this?
