    Ceremonial Piece #2 (orchestrated)

    Hi All,

I took FLWrd's advice and scored this piece (originally written for 2 Trumpets and Piano) for 2 Trumpets, Strings and Harp. All instruments are GPO.

    Here it is:

Ceremonial Piece #2 (2 Trumpets, Strings, and Harp)

For comparison, here is the version for 2 Trumpets and Piano.

    Best Regards,

Works for me! Especially in the parts where the trumpets don't play and in the higher registers, the strings work better than the piano. And the harp is a clever addition, which keeps the attack of the piano. Well, to my ears anyway.

I'm honoured that you thought my suggestion was useful. Thanks Jack.

    Hi Jack
    A good job.
The trumpet articulation in the "fanfare" sectons seem to be a bit off-sound wise. In Finale, I would use a longer version of stacccato. It seems to sound better in brass.
There is a segment in the middle where there is an implied "swing" feel. You might try to make the 8ths even instead of long-short.

Nice job on these, Jack, and a solid piece.

    I must say I like both versions -- both are very effective;
though, to me, the piano version exhibits greater strength
    and clarity of intention.

Jack, could we perhaps talk you into a version for full
orchestra? You certainly have the raw goods, here, for
    that.

    My best,

    David

    Hi FLWrd, Gary, and David,

Thanks for listening and for your comments.

The piece was originally written for 2 Trumpets and Piano for students to perform at Commencement. Later, it was actually published, and has been used as a test piece in a music festival. So I think that both versions are valid, also from a practical perspective. As far as a full orchestra, David, I'll have to think about that one.

    Best Regards,

    Jack

This is a very solid piece.

Since I love full orchestras, I would also like to hear it with everything, but I will take it with strings.

    Nice work

    Hey Jack!
I like the 2 Trumpets and Piano version the best, by far! So clean, sparse and honest! Good work Jack!

    Hi Ron and SD,

Thanks for listening and for your comments.

I also like the piano version the best. It's the original concept, and, on days when I'm feeling good about the piece, I think it works the best.

    Best Regards,

    Jack
