Some samples are very very quite.

I've just installed GPO, and some voices are very quiet, to the point that even with the volume set to max, and my mixer slider set to max, it's still fairly quiet.

How do I get past this?

you must use the mod wheel to raise and lower the dynamic level of instruments that are bowed, blown etc. Volume of percussion instruments that are struck are typically determined by the velocity, or the attack of the midi keyboard controller. Percussion instruments like piano can not be controlled
    with modwheel.

Hello Tandyhole and a warm welcome to our forums.

You didn't mention whether if you are using GPO through a sequencer or a notation program. Either way our resident expert, Dan, has answered your question. I'm just curious.
