Garritans Personal Orchestra - Video Game Battle Test (40 Second "Big" Orchestra)

Using the Garritan Personal Orchestra Lite Reason 4 Refill I've made a short 40 second test to see if Garritan can do some big orchestral stuff.

    Lower Quality, but convenient:

    Higher Quality, but Soundclick:

Every single patch has it's own amount of custom reverb. The snare for example is saturated in it, while something like the Trombones have the least to preserve it's timbre (not muddy it).

Lots of things have EQ on them, including the lower strings. Yes, it brings out the video-gamey synthyness of the lower strings, but this way they sound less muddy. I feel that to compensate for not having higher quality string samples libraries will raise the lower frequencies to muddy up the strings. If it sounds like synth, it sounds like synth, I'd rather it be less muddy. =)

I also tried to make the timpani less muddy by lowering the frequencies around 150Hz (low-mid) and raising the frequencies around 2.5-20kHz (mid-high to high).

    Tracks used:

    Trumpet Lead 1
    Trumpet Lead 2
    Flutes
    Trombones
    Tuba
    Horn
    Low Strings
    High Strings
    Snare
    Timpani
    Percussion (for cymbals)

    Thanks for listening. =)

    Mark

The piece does have a synthy sound to it, but it is all clear and very appropriate for the gaming style.

Synthy doesn't always have to be bad.

    Nice work
