Garritan Orchestra - a tribute to my dog (!)

    Hello, all:

I wrote this piece as a tribute to my dog, who I lost a couple years ago. He loved to frolic in the backyard, literally chasing butterflies. I decided to write a short (2 mins. or so) piece for him that was happy and wistful, because that was his nature.

You can here it here: http://www.glennfinnanscores.com/14a...%20Chasing.mp3

I composed this for strings, harp, celesta, glockenspiel, triangle, flute, and piccolo (all GPO).

Also, when I mixed it I used a "deep hall" reverb, because that's my favorite kind of orchestral recording sound... a throwback from the good ol' days of vinyl!

    Hope you like it.

    Hi Glenn,
I remember when Gary Garritan was trying to convince me to write my own
original piece of music back in 2007, shortly after my Sparky's life had to end.

He said... "write a piece of music and dedicate it to Sparky"
Gary knew how horribly I was grieving Sparky for months.

    I immediately wrote it.

I like this song "Chasing", and it certainly does have a joyful sound to it.

It indeed evokes mild sadness over happy memories, beginning, life and end, and it sounds great too. I like the descending root, it keeps it fresh. Well done.

Glenn - I can tell you wrote this for your dog as there are lots of very high frequencies in it. Seriously - a wonderfully written and rendered piece that is full of life! We lost a rabbit (Thumper at 10 years) a few years back and that was bad enough. And dogs are far more interactive so I cannot imagine the grief of losing a good dog.
