    High Flight

Here is the poem that inspired me to write this track:

    High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

    Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee
    No 412 squadron, RCAF
    Killed 11 December 1941

I used one synthesizer track to lay down the chords to start, after that everything else is GPO recorded live/stand alone one track at a time. New tracks I added were a synth bass and GPO Tubular Bells.

    Hey Hippie!

Your arranging style suited this poem to a "T".

Nice job, Aram ... I enjoyed this.

    Thank You Frank.

I am going to take this to the Air Force and see if I can get some film of some fighters in high flight and put this all together for a video, with the poem added.

I think the Air Force will work with an old Army combat Vet.

    Hi Hippie,

Perfect "atmosphere" for the subject. I always liked that thick pad sound. Always reminds me of the first time I heard it ("Cosmos" series from the 1970's). As a pilot (non-combat) I can certainly appreciate what you did here.

Thanks John. Cosmos was one of the best shows on TV...IMO, thanks to the music of course.

Thank you Rich. This is the first time I didn't lay on the Moogs or synth tracks like I normally do. Just one synth to lay the ground work and the rest all GPO. 20+ days of recording the orchestra not counting the mixing & mastering. Now I'll go back to mixing and mastering a instrumental Surf Rock CD for Mercury Legion, they are sending the tracks for 3 new songs.

    Re: High Flight

This is a bump because I added two more tracks and re-mixed the song. It is finished now.

The tracks I added were a synth bass and GPO Tubular Bells.

The poem I wrote this song for and the link to the song on in my first post.

Next I will be recording the poem, I found a guy that is going to do it cause there is no way I am getting in front of a mic again, and them I will mix it into the song.
