"The Girl From Ipanema" (My Arrangement)

    All,

This afternoon I wrote an arrangement of the oldie, "The Girl From Ipanema".

I have loved this old tune since I first heard it those many years ago.

Most of the instruments are either Garritan Personal Orchestra or Garritan Jazz and Big Band.

    Regards to everyone.

Surely this doesn't deserve to scroll off the page with no responses at all. Does it?

    Maybe so.

    Hi Larry:

Just listened to your really great "Ipanema" arrangement and
want to say it was a great listen.

Great balance and chord changes throughout. Loved the
background pads at the first "bridge." They really carried
the listener all the way back to "Brazil."

The only thing I was missing was a little Latin Intro instead
of getting right into the melody, but it's not my arrangement....lol

    Great work, Larry.

Not at all, my friend!! I just think this weekend was a busy time for many ... I still owe Bill Rayer a response on the tune I posted Fri night that he commented on Sat! What can I say? ... I'm pokey!

I did listen to your song as soon as you posted, but did not comment. But I will now: What can possibly go better than a flute lead on a Jobim tune? Jobim was one of my all-time favorite composers ... I'll bet there's a dozen of his pieces I would put on my "100 best-songs-ever-written" list ... and this would be one of them.

Your arrangement was pleasant and I enjoyed ... it also brought back a couple of memories:

1-Guitar was my 1st instrument and although I don't really miss not playing it much anymore, as soon as I hear a good bossa nova, I do miss not playing THOSE on the guitar. I loved to play bossa on a nylon-string acoustic.

2-While in the Navy in the early 70's, stationed on a ship out of Pearl Harbor, I had a Sunday afternoon restaurant gig in Wakiki playing primarily Bossa Novas w/ a flautist ... we didn't make a ton of money, but that's about as good as it gets! (Oh, yeah, there were a lot of pretty tourist girls to meet too! )

Thanks for posting and thanks for the Brazilian memories!

    Regards,

    Frank

Beautiful arrangement of one of my favourite tunes - I love the harmonies Joabim uses; your instrumentation caught the mood to perfection.
Great work here Larry - I think this is the first piece I've heard from you which isn't yoiur own composition (?).

Many thanks, Lad for the compliments. I did a lot of arranging in my younger days but not so much in my later years.

I hope that you are doing well there on the beautiful Emerald Isle.

    Take care, my friend.

I wrote that as a joke, but decided to delete it.
