Omnisphere 1.2.0n does not work with Brainspawn Forte

    Hello,

The problem is that Omnisphere wont respond to midi input.
    Pressing "preview" button works.
Theres several people that has the same problem at the Brainspawn forum so i guess the folks at Spectrasonics have heard of this

    Cheers

    Confirmed here.
I don't know how I missed this in my initial test, but yes, I can't get any sound out of Omni when sending midi to it, if it's hosted in Forte.
    The audition button works.
It appears to be how omni receives midi when hosted in Forte.
Forte is definitely showing that it is receiving midi and Atmosphere works if hosted in the same Forte rack.

Omnisphere requires a VST 2.4 host. Forte seems to be relying on a part of the VST protocol (wantEvents) that was deprecated in version 2.4. If you know how to contact the developer of Forte, let them know that's the problem.

I sent them an Email and a link to this thread.

    Update:

Mike replied to my email (03-06-2010) saying he is expecting delivery of Omnisphere soon.

If you're in contact with the makers of Forte, tell them the problem seems to be they are neglecting to call canDo "receiveVstMidiEvent" , and are instead relying on wantEvents, which is deprecated.

Re: Omnisphere 1.2.0n does not work with Brainspawn Forte

A response from Mike at Forte':

"Thanks for the information. I'll put up a beta build (see http://www.brainspawn.com/wiki/index...=Beta_Software) with a dummy call to the plugin. Let me know if that fixes it."

I haven't downloaded it or tested it yet and won't be able to have the time until Saturday, or Sunday so if anyone checks it out please let us know.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Update: The beta is only available for 2.0 license holders. ( not me )

    2.2.3 (March 11, 2010)

    • Potential fix for Spectrasonics Omnisphere - make token call to "receiveVstMidiEvent" during VST init.

But first reports isnt that great:
"sorry to tell but same problem here with the latest beta."

Re: Omnisphere 1.2.0n does not work with Brainspawn Forte

    Hello all,

I'd like to get this Omnisphere compatibility issue sorted out. I released a beta update Thursday that calls

    m_pAEffect->dispatcher(m_pAEffect, effCanDo, 0, 0, "receiveVstMidiEvent", 0);

during VST initialization (after the plugin loads).

Is this what the plugin is expecting? Is something else required?

I did go back and discover this VST 2.4 oversight in Forte. I'm quite ready to publish a fix as soon as I know exactly what is needed.

Re: Omnisphere 1.2.0n does not work with Brainspawn Forte

That's simply a status query. It's up to the host to do to the something with the result, presumably whatever it used to do when the plugin called wantEvents in earlier versions of VST.
