Currently making an album with the Steinway - could use some feedback
Hello guys,
I've been using the Garritan Steinway for about a year and I've been very pleased with the results so far. I'm currently trying to finish a piano solo album and I was thinking that, maybe, some of you would be curious to hear it and tell me what they think, before I decide that the pieces are as good as I can make them.
Sometimes I think I should have used more tempo variations and a wider velocity range on some pieces, but then, as this is quiet impressionist music mostly, it's probably natural to use low velocities most of the time.
Also, please keep in mind that I started learning music production tools only a year ago

Hi Mathieu,
The tracks sounded fairly good to me - I didn't hear any sort of problems technically and I'm not greatly qualified to give musical guidance. My expertise is much more on technical and dsp issues, though I enjoyed listening to your recordings. You may want to ask on the forum's Garritan Central -> The Listening Room, as a lot of people making music post there.
Best wishes for your piano album,
Jeff
Re: Currently making an album with the Steinway - could use some feedback
my thoughts this is only a point of view as in all sampled pianos there's a sense of being synthetic may i suggest adding a tail to the piano by adding slight reverb if you record center add the reverb a little left and a little right make sure that the reverb belongs on the same level as the piano, in other words surrounding the main track experiment with the room size of coarse using a dedicated reverb (altiverb or try this if you don't have http://www.acousticas.net/)

Thanks for your feedback. I actually use the Piano Hall effect that's part of the Garritan Steinway (slight reverb). I tried to expirement with other reverbs, but was not happy with the results. I will check that site.
