    Installing New Internal HD

I’m going to be swapping my internal hard drive that contains all my samples/sound sources for various VSTs for a larger drive.

My plan was to dump everything from the 500GB drive onto an external drive. Install the new internal drive and then dump everything back into the new drive from the external drive.

Does anyone have any experience doing this and if so did they have any issues? I’m nervous about whether any programs will have trouble finding the samples etc.

Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Installing New Internal HD

some products may have problems finding the new hard drives... I guess if you rename them with the old names it should be fine.
Are you on mac or pc?

What I usually do is get a sata usb converter like this:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer...gy/U2NV2SPATA/

they are so many others like that.
and if you are on a pc
I bought this program, but you can use it as 30 day demo which will do it all:

so basically put the new internal as an external using a sata/usb adaptor.
run the software which will copy every single thing properly.
and then take out the old internal and replace it with the new internal.

of course there are other ways to do it, but that for me has been the best method thus far.

    Re: Installing New Internal HD

Thanks for the tip Richard. I'm on a PC platform. I'm curious to see what other peoples experiences have been. I have several projects going on with deadlines so I might wait until I have some down time as I don't have the time to deal with any tech issues.

Any others out there with comments or suggestions?

sure, you are most welcome......but definitely do NOT do it in the middle of projects.
