    Curmudgeons!

I've noticed that for a bunch of people who create new music, new audio creations and enjoy exploring new ideas - there is an awful lot of grumbling about the new forum look , services and features.

I like the new look, services and features - I enjoy getting new toys to play with and have confidence in my adaptive capacity (!!!!) We adapt to all sorts of new VSTs and software updates etc...why so much grumbling about the board?

I suggest we all explore, have fun and don't worry so much. I do enough worrying for everybody anyway.

    Hasty Las Vegas, y'all

I like the look of the forum now that they've fixed the color scheme ... that blue was harsh on the eyes

I'm also looking forward to the future of robot composers!

Since most of the complaints are about basic functionality (posting, seeing things, ext) I can understand the source of frustration. You are right that we can adapt to new toys, and even play with broken toys (which is the case here for many people using Firefox) and toys that bite us. It seems to be techinical issues with the functionality that is driving most of the grumbling. But without grumbing, the problems would likely never get fixed.

    Cheers,

    Tim

hehe, I really like the way you are so consistently upbeat, Chip "Reberclark."

Tim's already replied in his already recognizably trademarked intelligent, equally upbeat manner--you go, Tim!--But I'll add:

"...why so much grumbling about the board?..."

--Because it isn't working for a bunch of us, to a greater or lesser degree, apparently due to what Firefox plug-ins we have, and/or what system protection apps we're using. Obviously something's wrong when all the other sites we visit work fine on Firefox.

Right now, when I use my usual browser, Firefox, I can't see more than one day's worth of posts. Like Tim, the menu at the bottom left for filtering the displayed time period isn't functioning. So right now we have no way of looking back in Forum history beyond the current date--Yikes!

I'll be using Google Chrome (yuck) until the Forum is fixed--I forgot to use it just now, I'm so accustomed to staying with the browser I currently have open, with however many tabs I want. It'll be a hassle to have to have Chrome open for this one Forum.

SO that's why I'm being a Curmudgeon! Aren't you glad you asked?

And some of us are just curmudgeonly by nature. Anyway, I didn't see anyone complain about new services and features - just the looks. (I don't think the complaints about FireFox were necessarily aimed at the forum.) I never have welcomed change just for its own sake, and I'm not about to start. I still see a bunch of the emoticons clearly, but I can pick out the one important to a curmudgeon!

    grump, grump, grump, grump, ...

I love you guys! And I actually am a fellow card-carrying curmudgeon, and I do hate it when things that are 'sposed to work don't work.

I was just trying to liven things up! Hope no one took me too seriously!

OK, then to keep the Spirit of Curmudgeonry (not an officially sanctioned word, Raymond, like the word I've based it on) - Now that the Forum seems to be functioning well for us all again, I can Still complain:

Have you looked at NorthernSound's front page recently? - It used to look much more impressive. It doesn't even look all that professional anymore - AND here is text which is always in the upper right hand corner:

"This category or feed does not exists. Please, check the names you entered"

What?-- I haven't entered any names. What's that all about?

And here at the Garritan Forum - I think it's a pity that Gary's nice GPO flash banner is gone. I'm sorry I have to see that ad for Titan flickering away all the time I'm here.

OK - that was today's installment in the Curmudgeon Chronicles.

This is now an officially sanctioned word by the Obstinate and Dour Order of Advanced Curmudgeons, Lost Patience Chapter. We voted it in last night, grudgingly and with much grumbling and sneering into our beer. But a small faction of supporters persevered and it passed.

HA! Glad to hear my new word was begrudgingly sanctioned by the group. I'll keep sending in, complainingly!!, my membership dues.
