I have a huge assortment of MIDI scans of piano rolls.
The music is very old, early 20th century, presumably in the public domain.
It's well-known by now that practically no audio recordings are unencumbered by potential legal difficulty. This is unfortunate, because many of these antique works beg to be sampled and excerpted in new compositions.

Does this legal situation exist for century-old piano rolls that have been scanned and converted into MIDI data?
