Compare solo violins head to head

Here is another side by side comparison. The solo violins go head to head.
One violin has a softness and a lyrical quality that is somewhat like the sound associated with Yehudi Menuhin (it is not Menuhin). The other violin is quite different. It has a hardness and a sharp quality not unlike the sound associated with Jascha Heifetz (it is not Heifetz - far from it - both violinists were similar culturally however because both were Russian and Jewish and both careers spanned the 20th century). It is not a matter of which is better. It is a matter of which do you prefer. Or to be even more specific, which do you prefer for the Tchaikovsky violin concerto.

Two new examples have been added to the folder. All of the above applies to the new examples.

The file pitvcb17.2b has been updated with a new version. The new file is in two parts. The first is the complete Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, the 2nd movement. This first part is pitvcb17.2b exactly as before. The second part is the first two minutes of the 3rd (and last) movement. The 2nd (slow and soft) movement naturally flows without stop into the 3rd (fast and loud) movement. So here they are together.

But there is more. GARRITAN strings are featured in the new part. The 1st and 2nd violin, viola, cello and bass sections are Garritan sounds.

If you want some solo strings that actually sound good, check out the new library from Spitfire (5th demo down): http://www.spitfireaudio.com/demos

Here's a ballad I used the the Solo Strings in. I am, by far, not a good programmer, but even with my limited skills, I am very happy with the solo string sounds.

    Hi
    Nice song and arrangement!!
However, in all fairness it is hard to judge how the Vienna "solo" strings sound pretty much buried in the mix although a bit more visible in the intro. I would love to hear a good extended solo violin by itself or just with piano. That's when their true colours come out.

    Thanks for posting!

Ravel's string quartet, Mov.2. This is an old rendition of mine in which I substituted the original violin patch with the one in question, adapting the relevant programming. Articulations in use here are the long vibrato looped, pizzicato, tremolos and trills.

Paganini's Capriccio no. 5 arranged as... "fireworks" follows. A melee of articulations, I doubt Alexander Markov, "Mr. Paganini" himself, could play this in this way.
A chaotic and unpolished mix of middle lenght round robin patches, short RR, staccatos RR, spiccatos RR, ricochets RR, "au talon" and long with modified attack envelope for the starting and ending scales.

    Re: solo violin

Hello, I am new in this forum. I am impressed by the professionals, who contribute here. (unfortunately an Ivan seems to be earlier or later in every forum)
I also look for a good solo string. I have already Kirk Hunter, LASS first chair, Miroslav. I think, that it is possible to get an acceptable result with all these violins if you select the right library for the music you want to produce. But I still look for an instrument, which I could use for any kind music. But I am sure we will get there. Some instruments seem to come close to my dream.

this one will be released in February. Sounds very emotional.

this is pretty expensive and needs a lot resources

this one sounds nice. But only two demos. Low price!

    Keep on the good work,
