Unity was an experiment to see what I could do with the software that I have at my disposal in a short amount of time. It started with a chord progression I used in A New Journey, my Christmas piece from 2010, and quickly grew into the idea of using all of the Garritan libraries that I have (GPO, JABB, CoMB, Steinway, and GWI). All of the filters in the piece were applied within Pro Tools 9.

For those curious about the instrumentation and the libraries connected with each instrument:

    • Piano from Authorized Steinway Virtual Concert Grand Basic
    • Strings (heavily filtered in Pro Tools), French Horns, Mark Tree, and Choir from Personal Orchestra
    • Fretted Bass from Jazz and Big Band
    • Drum Kit (high hat, cymbals, claves, and triangle) from Concert and Marching Band
    • Knotweed Flute from World Instruments

This was a fun listen with a pop style. I think you did a good job of keeping it interesting with the different instruments.

I thought that the piano progression could be a little bit louder in the back when the other instruments come in.

Maybe you could expand on this music.

I brought the piano out a good bit when the other instruments came in and replaced the recording. Next chance I get, I'll rework the balance.

I considered expanding it, but I kind of want to keep the piece short.
