Ravel: Pavane pour une infante défunte

one of my all time favorite pieces, orchestrated by Ravel and realized with GPO at its full potential!

You had me at the first notes. There are of course a few instruments that reveal the use of a virtual instrument to the critical listener, but most of it is very good, and balance, tempo, and phrasing are just great. And the mood of the piece, a melancholic reflection on the a bygone era of elegance, is very well realized. Very well done. And thanks for enabling downloading: this one goes straight to my iPod.

Beautifully done - very well rendered, and quite a sensitive performance.

    Thanks!

Theo - you are right about certain instruments, the low register vibrato flute is impossible to smooth and certain string lines are unconvincing. i appreciate your forgiveness and your ear for the musical aspects!

Ron - thank you! is your website down?

    Peter - yes!!!

Yes, my website is down. I have to move it to another host, get a domain name, and that takes time; well it does, if you want to do it right!

By the way - I liked the Mahler. I'll chime in on the other thread.

    1. Honk.

    2. Very tastefu. I'm again impressed from the conducting skills of the people who shows up in the Listening Room.

    3. May I "honk" here too for Mahler or am I allowed to do only at proper thread?

Ron - i sympathize with the logistics of proper website hosting! looking forward to the final product.

Fabio - thank you! i am happy to accept car noise for Mahler here, as the atmosphere of its respective thread is somewhat heavy.

I love this Ravel piece the Hi-Lo's used the entrance of this piece for an entrance to one of their songs.

    Nice job!

the rendering of the woodwind solos is gorgeous in this.

unfortunately, it's the one, single, unique piece of Ravel's that I positively HATE!

    amusing anecdote from Ravel:

while teaching a student to play this very piece, she was performing it much too slowly, he told her "mademoiselle, it is the Infante that is defunct, not the Pavane".
