Sketches from At the Mountains of Madness

    Hi Everybody,

A podcast (The H. P. Lovecraft Literary Podcast) concerning the 1920's-1930's weird fiction author Howard Phillips Lovecraft requested some sketches concerning his story At the Mountains of Madness which concerns an expedition to the Antarctic and their strange findings. Below are four links to excerpts from some of these sketches.

They are not entirely done with Garritan Instruments but GPO and other Garritan Products are used in them.

    Thanks for all comments.

    The Expedition
    The Plane
    The Mountains (Antarctic Vistas)
    Tunnel Chase

    Very nicely done, Reber...
Obviously very cinematic, neat FX blended in, and great brass!

Great stuff. Especially love the tunnel chase. Am I right in saying the crazy woodwinds is the piping from the shoggoths? :-)

The piping is definitely shoggoths and any other scary Lovecraftian piping things chasing us up the tunnels! Lovecraft sure didn't care for the drumming and piping!

Great pieces. Cinematic indeed, but real music, none of this shoddy action movie 4 bar ostinato stuff. Too bad they were so short. I really liked them (least favorite: the Tunnel Chase, which is a bit too much tongue-in-cheek 50s SF to my taste): from the first notes of The Expedition, you managed to establish a small musical universe. Well done.

Many thanks for all the great comments! The reason the pieces are so short is that they are just sketches. Fully realized pieces will probably come later but these filled the bill for the podcast's request.

    Thanks again!

I should have gotten ya to do the music for my Lovecraft game. :-)

I did very quick pieces for it as title music and when playing. Nothing great, it was just get 'something' done and get the game out there.

Both your original game and the new one are really cool! I don't have ANY idea about flash programming and admire anyone who can do it. Great job!

Chip! -- Am I ever glad I clicked the "show posts from last 100 days" button so I can continue catching up on music here in The Listening Room. These fabulous Lovecraft cues came pouring out of my speakers, shaking my little studio and leaving me So stoked by the work you've done.

My my but it seems your appearances with music have been too rare here - or is it just that I didn't look into The Listening Room for so long?

Whatever the case - I just wanted to tell you that it's just great to hear what a masterful grasp you have on this material. BIG thumbs up, love your Lovecraft!

    APPLAUSE!

    Randy
