    Jesus Wept

    Jesus Wept

At the end of April I upgraded my copy of Garritan Personal Orchestra to the latest version. With it came a set of Choir samples of Ahs and Ohs, but more importantly the new Aria engine (player) supports Scala files. With these two givens I prepared a new “rendering” of my motet “Jesus Wept”; one using equal temperament and another using a Pythagorean temperament. I have uploaded the Pythagorean version to the score on SibeliusMusic Jesus Wept And both versions (Equal Temperament and Pythagorean) are available on SoundCloud. To my ear there is a supple, but significant difference between the two.

    Jesus Wept Equal Tempered
    Jesus Wept Pythagorean

No. The final three chords are i V6/3 I, id est: Dmi A/C# D.

The piece is in my mind in D dorian, but the last chord is a D Major Triad.

But you question has gotten me thinking about the last two chords, and I think I need to change the doubling of notes on the "V" chord.

    An interesting exercise, Ed.

To my ear, the change in temperament gives the harmony
    slightly more "edge".
