Epic Orchestral Demo - LSO recording

    Hi everybody,

I'm kinda new to this forum and would like to introduce myself with a composition that I've written last year which has been recorded with the LSO.

These are only excerpts from a longer composition which I can't post in its entirety due to several reasons so some transitions are a bit harsh unfortunately and might seem a bit out of context.

    Any comments are highly appreciated!

    Hi Robin.

Enjoyed this a lot. Is this part of a violin concerto? I'd love to hear the complete work.

Welcome to the forums here. Most, if not all of us, are submitting work rendered with samples. Hearing a real orchestra is always a valuable experience which will help us on our learning curve so I don't think anyone will object to your post. But I thought I'd mention that just in case. Although I listen to a lot of 'real' recordings, it's always good to hear a modern composition which contains many of the musical attributes we are trying to reproduce with samples.

Excellent work - and thanks for letting us hear this.

    Regards,

    Graham

I'm curious as to your method of composition. Do you use a notation program to put it all in or do you use a sequencer ant then to notation, etc.?

I wrote this straight into Sibelius without using a sequencer at all. It would be practically impossible to mockup some of these parts anyway, so why bother

Do you work from a short-hand sketch or do you compose onto the full score right from the start?

I made a few basic sketches, just as a guideline for myself but then worked straight into Sibelius, however, starting with a rough version and then working on more detailed orchestration in the second go.

Well it's certainly nice to see a fellow composer getting his stuff performed. You did a fantastic job with this piece. I really liked it. Is it all one movement or is it a multi-movement piece?

Really impressive work and truly amazing Robin!

I saw your scores and music on your website and can tell you are greatly influenced by film maestros Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, and Basil Poledouris, with the touch of your own style. I hope you don't take offense to that although critics and academics often conclude that Goldsmith and Williams are inspired by the works of Stravinsky and Bartok.

When you compose, do you start on a basic "Motif" or if doing film music use character themes?

Hope to hear more of your work soon.

    Best Regards,

    Dave
