Extremely high quality virtual orchestration, particularly for TV and film is in good demand - budgets are tight, deadlines are even tighter, so working in a virtual space and it staying there, (i.e. never going to live musicans) is common - so get your templates set up and saved. Speed up those projects and work on the realisim aspect when you can. You don't have far to go from what I hear.

While I would relish the opportunity for live musicans to play some of my music - I do love completing virtual works and licensing them or scoring short films for directors - the likes of which would never (yet) dream of hiring an orchestra.
Yeah, I am working on my template right now It's a neverending process though Always something to improve!

Having my music played by live musicians is definitely a kick, but to write really good music, virtual or live, is the ultimate kick for me

This is certainly short, but very sweet. You have introduced some very nice themes in this short clip; it really sounds like it could set up a variety of programmatic ideas. (Including Star Trek, as Randy mentioned )

I wish I could give you experienced advice about how to go about determining if this is ready for a professional orchestrator, but I have never had that opportunity. I can say, however, that even in my own compositions for smaller groups, I almost always think of something to add/remove/change to it after I think I am finished. In my opinion, if you find your self making tiny changes that really don't have a huge overall impact on the sound, it may be a good time to stop. But, that can be really difficult, because once you decide to make the change, you'll probably end up listening for the change, thus, each change you make will sound significant to your ear.

    I don't know, good luck!

    And welcome, again!
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you think so It's always nice to have some themes up my sleeve, you never know when a project calls for just THAT kind of theme

You are so right about making changes only we can hear! Spot on! I can certainly see myself in that description Sometimes, when I write something really quick, and it sounds good right away, I think to myself; It just can't sound good that fast! I just HAVE to touch some faders, adjust some EQ, apply some compression... And before I know it, I'm lost!

As others have said, welcome to the forum! This was a great opening piece... very Hollywood (and I mean that as a compliment). I thought was very good and blended (I wish I could get my bress to sound that smooth).

The only criticicsm I might make--although you don't really need to change anything--is with the opening brass line. It's very steady. You might was to consider rythmically varrying it a bit.

I look forward to hearing many works tunes from ya!

Thanks, man! And that's good advice regarding the brass line! Maybe more rhytmic variation would do the trick thanks for listening!

    Solid work roywestad!

I checked out your sight and it looks like you're sort of a budding Norwegian Danny Elfman.

I watched Edwin. Funny and sort of sad.

There is nothing wrong with working with an orchestrator if it gets the job done so you can keep doing what it is you do best. It's also good to learn more about orchestration.

    Thanks for posting.

I dropped you on your head when you were a baby- My ex-aunt Peggy's recent confession. Possibly one of those life changing events.

Hey Roy! The forum seems to be getting a lot of film score type music lately. This is another one, and I like it very much. Your piece paints a broad open picture to me. It makes me think of a sweeping meadow with a mountain range in the background. Very cool! Thanks for posting.
