Thank you Randy so very much! Love the name "Randy" too, because that is my brother's name. I've been reading and enjoying your post these past couple of days. I could learn a lot from you, my friend. Composingatnight became a name that I receive from college, lol back in the day.
As a resident newbie here at Garritan Central I'm pleased to meet you and admire your work. These folks are great - I hope one day to gain the same level of advice and direction you will certainly experience from visiting and participating in this forum.
And, I must say, it's a pleasure to meet a fellow tarheel, although I'm a bit of an ex-Pat. I live in North Texas currently (Baja Oklahoma) but grew up in Wilmington, on the banks of the Cape Fear River. I have family scattered all over N.C. and visit there as often as I can. Wilmington - I love that place - such a great vibe. Seriously - I would move back there in a heartbeat under the right circumstances.
Love your work. Good to meet you.

I absolutely love NC, and truly believe it can be Heaven on Earth sometimes. Good to meet you, and I'm glad you liked "Boom Extreme!" It's actually being published right now and soon will be available for all. It's such a fun work and a crowd pleaser, plus it is so much to play (so I've been told.) Concerning BBQ, I prefer western bbq to the eastern, but everyone is different. I truly do feel spoiled that I can just walk to the nearest place to get some and some sweet Bojangle's ice tea, mmmmmmm! Great to meet you, my friend!

I enjoyed your Fanfare and the slide show you did for it. I think you did a great job getting the samples to sound real, particularly since you are relatively new to them. Even more, I liked Boomwhackalacka Extreme!..... Too fun...

Rodney, if you'd like a professional performance of this, please consider submitting it to the Dallas Wind Symphony fanfare competition (submission will open in the next couple of months). Link to last year's contest
Very nice fanfare - it would be fun to hear this at the Meyerson Symphony Center here in Dallas!
I would love to do this, but "Fanfare for Earth" is 3 mins. The contest ask for only 2 min. fanfares, and I also looked at the other requirements concerning instrumentation:
The maximum ensemble of musicians is:
So what do you think?
- 6 Trumpet ("Fanfare for Earth" needs only 4.)
- 5 Horn ("Fanfare for Earth" needs only 4.)
- 3 Trombone ("Fanfare for Earth" needs 5 tenors and 1 bass trombone.)
- 2 Euphonium ("Fanfare for Earth" doesn't need any.)
- 2 Tuba ("Fanfare for Earth" needs 2 which is good.)
- Percussion not required. If used, must not exceed 3 players, and instrumentation can only include snare drum, bass drum, cymbals, suspended cymbal and no more than 2 timpani. ("Fanfare for Earth" would probably need 4 or 5 timpani.)
