Thanks Randy, I did get that notice today as well.
I wonder how many of our forum group are going to get involved with this. It certainly has been a long time since we have seen a contest or challenge with our members and now is a chance to get involved again even if it isn't just for our forum members.

... why do we have to install a Facebook app to even see the contest rules?
Some more details here. Read the comments. We're not alone.
Sounds like a non-starter for me.
It's mentioned there that of course it's facebook only and will remain so, and then it's the 10 most popular (as voted by the people with the most facebook friends - let's be honest) - before it goes to judges.
I can live with the facebook situation as I use it, but to have to parade my entry around and beg for votes - no way.
In any event, is it even open to non-US? Seeing as the prize is totally unrelated to music.
Here's a C&P of the rules. But submissions are made through Facebook, so this MM app is what you have to use if you want to enter. The "popularity contest" part of it is disappointing. Chances are slim that the general public at Facebook will actually listen to entries and vote. It does get down to how many people on Facebook you can talk into voting for you. - But - somebody's gonna win a dream trip, so that part's cool.
NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW OR REGULATION. PARTICIPANTS MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER AT THE TIME OF ENTRY.

The competition itself sounds like a lot of fun, but I always get a cautious when I see the words "public voting". In this case the amount of public votes is used to determine the TOP 10 that will make it to the final round. This basically means whoever has to most friends on Facebook and is willing to shamelesly promo his own piece on social media, will win. (be prepared to lose your friends because of the spam!) Well, of course I'm exaggerating a bit, but still. But of course this way is a lot more publicity for the competition organizer, so I understand why they do so.
It's still a really cool competition and my meaning isn't to complain by any means. The reason I'm saying this is that I took part in such a competition and there were some really good contestants. Unfortunately it wasn't the good ones that won. The contest organizer actually decided to take another round because of the complaints and in addition sent everyone who had attended a free gift (which was actually an iPod nano and a gift card, quite generous!!!)
Well, anyway, that was only one case. Who knows, maybe this will turn out totally different! But this means that writing your piece is only one part of the work, posting and sharing the voting requests everywhere it is easily the same amount time...

Unfortunately, it is becoming more and more common to use Facebook, YouTube, or other social media as the initial filter for contests. I think it is a bad idea, as it has more to do with how many so-called friends you have or can recruit than with the quality of the work. It also a fraudulent system, as I've found out in the past. I don't mind losing, but I do mind losing this way...
It's a pity, really. For now, I just see it is a little exercise...
The only part that really bothers me is they allow one to "vote" every day...that just ain't right
