I just listened again...I guess it's the brass (especially the trumpets) that blow me away...I would imagine there's a lot of tweaking done too so very nice job!

I have to agree, Graham, that this GPO rendering doesn't really show the Library off very well. It was an interesting experiment, Fab, but to really make the point that GPO can sound pretty amazing, one would need to spend much more time on the project. Graham put in many, many hours into his project, and it shows - At least that same amount of effort put into a GPO version would make more of a point of comparison.
I need to disagree, though, that the woodwinds are "the only decent sound" in this recording. It could be my imagination at work - Despite deficiencies which started with the MIDI file used (notes held too long, lack of dynamic range in the velocities etc) - I can filter all that out to hear the GPO instruments the way I know they can sound, not the way they actually sound in this recording. Well, my point is that I keep seeing references to the woodwinds being the only good things in GPO, and I think that's both unfair and innacurate.
THANK YOU for the explanation about Ableton Live - I didn't know it also has a normal DAW environment to work in, this "Arrangement" view. Obviously it's the "Session" view which is the program's main selling point, and what makes it different from traditional DAWS - Look at how well they've gotten that message across to me - I thought that was the only way it could be used, stringing bits of audio and MIDI together. I appreciate the education!
Randy
That's all true.
Also, didn't mean to imply the woods are the only good thing in GPO - it has many merits across the whole range of instruments - but out of the selection of patches I have across all the libraries, it's fair for me to say that the GPO woods still hold their own in amongst my collection. The other instruments unfortunately cannot.
