    Well, hello, stranger!

This is indeed a fantastic performance, full of sensitivity and musicality. I can't imagine there being a better demo of the Garritan Steinway.

This is the player's perspective, with the wide stereo field of low notes on the left, high on the right. I always find that a bit disconcerting, preferring the field to be narrowed and reversed for an audience perspective, so I'm the listener and not the player. Just a personal preference of mine.

How did this come to your attention, Dan?

Indeed great sound and a wonderful performance. Do I notice some "artifacts" coming from using the resonance pedal?

    Hi Randy and Raymond,
I was just visiting the Garritan website the other night and was listening to some of the piano demos
and remembered hearing this specific demo by John Grant back when the Steinway was released and remembering how melancholy this made me feel.... it still has that effect on me. In actuality, it is the piece of music by Brahms that is responsible for this emotion, but that emotion could not emerge without a nice sounding instrument producing the sound. While the recording of this sampled instrument does have issues...
    some velocities being too loud,
    excessive use of sustain resonance,
the wrong perspective used for such a piece (as Randy pointed out)

It is still a nice performance.
I think some things are worthy of being brought back to the surface.

Since I was a music student in college this has been one of my favorite Brahms piano works. This performance does indeed show the potential of the Garritan Steinway Library. Dan, thanks for calling it to our attention.

I quote: this is one of my favorite Brahms piano works, and a favorite piano work ever. It's worth of a professional record.
