Instruments take an age to load

Is it normal for GigaPiano and other large sample instruments, e.g. AO violin etc to take four or five minutes to load into a midi channel on GS?

    My system is as follows:

    GS version 1.6.
    Windows 98
Pentium II 450 MHz with 512 cache.
    384 MB RAM.
10G UDMA 7200 rpm hard drive used by GS.
10G UDMA 7200 rpm hard drive used by Windows.

    Many thanks,

    Richard Cox.

    Hi Richard,

    that\'s n o t normal indeed.
You better post this problem to the TechSupport of NemeSys.

Question: have you defragmented your GigHD ?

Re: Instruments take an age to load

I agree with the others, that\'s too long. The Steinway B on my system loads in 35 seconds. If you could give additional details about your hard drive setup, that might help. But with that big of a difference, there would have to be something very wrong with your setup.

I have posted info about a disk benchmarking program called DskBench. Download it and see if you get similar performance to my systems. http://www.angelfire.com/wa/busch/dskbench.html

Here\'s another thought. Try removing 128MB of RAM. This relates to the 256MB RAM issue found in other sections in this forum. It\'s possible that is causing your problem. I only have 128MB RAM.

Re: Instruments take an age to load

Well, my system is set to 256MB and I never had such loadtimes.
But it could be a problem with 384MB.

Yes, the problem is that things work fine up to a max of 256MB, but get flakey with more memory.

Re: Instruments take an age to load

    Hi,
a small hint: Load times get much longer on my system, when the notation software is active on a midi-channel. When you switch it off, load times almnost double.

Small mistake in my last reply - I meant that...

\"load times almost halfen, when the sequencer is deactivated.\"
