First Slap Bass Impression & question

I\'ve been tinkering with it for a few hours now, and examining the first demo file. First of all, it does sound amazing. The programming doesn\'t look as hairy as I feared. In fact, the first demo song is almost completely quantised (ie one note per quantised interval, exactly on the tick) though it doesn\'t really sound like it. It\'s pretty neat, you can see it\'s meticulously programmed but you don\'t need to really knock yourself out on note entry.

My first question Scarbee: How do I get Cubase to read the program change listing file?

    Hi Sam:

    \"The programming doesn\'t look as hairy as I feared.\"

You can even print out the \"Quickview\" (of the articulations) to make it easier in the beginning.

\"In fact, the first demo song is almost completely quantised (ie one note per quantised interval, exactly on the tick) though it doesn\'t really sound like it.\"

Yeas that is right - but it is a fast tempo too. In the slower demoes and when playing more solo-alike I move the notes a bit to make it feel more \"human\". I spend a lot of time finding out how to cut the samples to make it work perfectly with a total quantize, without loose swing or getting untight.

\"How do I get Cubase to read the program change listing file?\"

Look in the cubase folder for files like this - parse-files (text-file), and put the text-file there. This is how I find it and created the file.
I don\'t have Cubase myself and made the file at a friends system.

PS. I use Logic - but will have Sonar in a week to check out...

Good luck with your first \"bass lines\"

Is the patch parsing specific to vst 5? I find no mention of it in 3.7.

I am not sure - have to figure that out. I believe it was Cubase 5.0 - otherwise I will make a patch to download from my site.

I will check it out later today.

    Hi Sam,

[B]\"Is the patch parsing specific to vst 5? I find no mention of it in 3.7\"

The patch is made for VST 5.0

Please check out if you can see other patchnames in 3.7 - like Roland GM sounds.
Then see if you can make your own patchnames somewhere. Here is the numbers - the first number is for sequencers using 0-127, the second is for seq. using 1-128:

    00 (01)= Jam Bass - Slap
    01 (02)= Jam Bass - Fingered
    05 (06)= Jam Bass trills - Slap
    06 (07)= Jam Bass trills - Fingered

    10 (11)= Studio Bass 1 - Slap
    20 (21)= Studio Bass 2 - Slap
    30 (31)= Studio Bass 3 - Slap
    40 (41)= Studio Bass 4 - Slap

    45 (46)= Slides - Slap

    50 (51)= Studio Bass 5 - Fingered
    60 (61)= Studio Bass 6 - Fingered
    70 (71)= Studio Bass 7 - Fingered
    80 (81)= Studio Bass 8 - Fingered

    85 (86)= Slides - Fingered

    90 (91)= Harmonics - Fingered/Slap
    95 (96)= Harmonics All - Fingered/Slap

    hope it helps

    Thomas
