Hey cool, thank you Rodney and Chad both for the bumps.

These demos should indeed take the mystery out of wondering what all the stops in Pipe Organs sound like - PLUS that veritable treasure trove of EXCELLENT MIDI organ files I found are an incredible find.

As I noted earlier, the MIDI files were recorded in real time, so they're full of all the little human touches that make them so organic sounding. If you open a file and take a look, you can see what tracks you actually need, make a few adjustments to make them work - there are some controlling tracks you don't need for the Garritan Pipe Organs.

    Everybody should scoop those up!

I listened to a few of the demos. Good job Randy. Just a quick question, is this the newest organ library. I remember seeing both the recent one and an older one. Also, since in discussion, I am interested in the world instruments. I am far from familiar with the names but can you tell me if you can create compositions such as this:

I don't know what instruments were used in this, but I do recall reading an article that the composers to the HOMM IV score used world instruments for this part in the series.

    Regards,

    Richard

There's only been one Garritan Library dedicated to Pipe Organs - this new one, Garritan Classic Pipe Organs, very recently released. I put together this demonstration of all the stops because there was the request to hear each of them in isolation, so that it's clear exactly what all the different available sounds are.

You must be thinking of the small collection of organs available in GPO. Those can work fine, but since they're part of the entire orchestral collection in GPO, naturally they have far fewer samples and not the kind of detailed control available in this new Library which is dedicated to nothing but these magnificent organs.

Ethnic instruments from all over the world are the "bread and butter" sounds for composers doing this kind of epic/gaming/soundtrack work, so yes, that video has world instruments in it.

Here's a complete list of the huge collection of instruments in Garritan World:

    Garritan World Instruments List

That's a very helpful PDF file - There's a photograph and good description of each instrument. Most of us aren't familiar with the names of these exotic instruments - it's very interesting to use a search engine for finding out even more about each one, and finding MP3 samples online of what they sound like.

In the video you posted, it sounded to me like you would find similar or even the exact same instruments in Garritan World. There are folk flutes, a mandolin, various Middle Eastern wind instruments, bagpipes, a fiddle - maybe others. All of those are in World. The full strings used in that soundtrack aren't in World, since they're already available in both GPO and IO. Vocal samples like those used in this video would also need to come from another source. World focuses on World woodwinds, small stringed instruments, and percussion.

Considering that this kind of music is your main interest, Richard, I would encourage you to seriously consider getting Garritan World. Here's the page of info along with MP3 demos - a number of which I had a great time producing:

Thank you for letting me know these demos are useful to you, Stevan. When there was such a demand for hearing a more thorough demonstration of the Library upon its initial release, I just rolled up my sleeves one day and started putting this together. I get several emal alerts every day showing me that people are listening and downloading this material - I'm very glad it's being used and helping people out!
