A Theremin and piano piece "A Rose" from "A Rose for Ecclesiastes"

Here is a theremin and piano piece "A Rose" from "A Rose for Ecclesiastes". I upload it suggested by Randy.

The mp3 is the recording of a live performance of Theremin by Miquette and Piano by Jun Yamamoto. The composition is by Jun Yamamoto.

    Hi Jun,

This was great ... like one of those Clara Rockmore + Piano performances. Really nice composition; had great ambiance as well. Thanks for this very different performance; I'm sure it was well recieved; I really enjoyed it.

    Thank you, Frank.

Actually, theremin is different. So difficult to stabilize the pitch, then generated sounds fluctuate slightly. It creates a "different" soundscape with stable piano sound.

Thank you, Dan. As you see the score, piano part was tricky.

Thank you for posting this, Jun. It's a beautiful combination, these two instruments. And you've described the contrast perfectly here. The wavering tone of the Theremin, always needing to slide from note to note, provides a wonderful textural contrast to the percussive sound of the piano.

I really like the human vocal quality of this particular Theremin performance. I know the instrument is capable of producing a variety of timbres, and I especially like the singing quality used for this piece.

A friend of mine, a very talented musician, bought a Theremin hoping to master it. He soon discovered that it's extremely difficult to play, and after several years of owning it, still feels very much a beginning amateur. He sets it up every year for the neighborhood children to play with when they come trick-or-treating on Halloween!

Thanks for the unusual and very beautiful music.

    Hello Jun!
I too enjoyed this piece, made so unusual by the Theremin's eerie "singing" voice! I thought the careful and deliberate, Satie-like piano part was just the thing to contrast with the Theremin's fluid voice. I'll bet they are tough to master, no frets!!!

Thanks for posting this very lovely and novel music!
