Good Reverb?

Hello,

What would be an all around good reverb? I am familiar with the Waves stuff, but abit too pricey at the moment... any suggestions?

<font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Arial\">Hi Will,

The SIR VST plugin is a must. This is a convolution reverb that works great. It\'s free, and it is at http://www.knufinke.de/sir/index_en.html
You must try the Lexicon PCM90 Hall impulses with SIR. These and many other impulses can be found at http://www.noisevault.com
Another great site with lots of impulses is http://www.echochamber.cz

There\'s also another VST reverb that works really nice. The Ambience VST reverb can be found at
http://www.smartelectronix.com/~magnus/
This is also free (but donations are welcome by the author).

Enjoy,

Ruben

I use Ambience as well - pretty amazing, especially for donation ware.

Another contender: http://www.silverspike.de/Home/home.html

My wife wanted to give a disc of piano pieces to her dad; I have Altiverb, but I didn\'t want to mess with it, so I went back to Reverb. It, kicked the resolution into high (it\'s CPU adjustable, just like Ambience) and exported it - and man, it was remarkable. I actually think it\'s still better than Ambience (although it\'s hard to beat Ambience\'s price)...

But for less than $40, it\'s pretty terrific.

(Also found a review from Sound-On-Sound when I went to get their site for this post: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/feb02/articles/plugin0202.asp )

Interesting.. thanks for the tip (Reverb.It). I\'m currently in the process of messing with different reverbs. I have the demo but will have to mess with it later.

Re: Good Reverb?

Do I understand correctly that one can use Altiverb IRs with the SIR reverb?

Yep, you sure can. I recommend the Lexicon PCM90 reverbs from http://www.noisevault.com

for the record, is anyone saying these other programs are better than Altiverb?

Re: Good Reverb?

Just curious, why would Altiverb SOUND better than SIR if they\'re both convolution based? the reason there are caps on sound is because \'Altiverb is less cpu intensive\' doesn\'t affect the sound. :-D

for me at least.

it seems that quality of impulses would be a factor tho.

Re: Good Reverb?

I\'ve heard (and agree) that SIR is easier to use than other impulse-based reverbs such as Acoustic Mirror. It\'s all a matter of preference really. SIR is beta though, I believe.. and it has a couple issues.

<font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Arial\">Uhhh - no.

Cheaper & less CPU-intensive, yes.

My reason for using Silverspike - it\'s quick; you can tailor the CPU easily, then when you\'re ready to export you can push it to 150% quality & get silky results; and it has a character of its own (well-suited for some uses). Ambience is the same way, but it\'s greedier with CPU than Reverb. It & has its own (different) character.
