32 bit Kontakt Player 2 vs. 64 bit ARIA player

Here is a comparison of two different rendering of "When there was water on the Earth" (Piano Solo)

32bit Kontakt Player 2 GPO Piano version

    64bit ARIA GPO Piano version

I think 64bit sound is fine but 32bit sound is a little warmer.

Hi, Yun - Thanks for posting the lovely piano piece. Your use of embellishments over the comfortable chord progression is very pleasant to listen to.

And you invited a comparison of the two files. Since 64 bits provides more detail and accuracy in a recording, it probably does sound a bit brighter in tone than the 32 bit version. With a slightly different EQ setting, it would probably sound idential to the 32 bit - they're of course extremely similar in tone already.

BUT there's a much more pronounced difference between the two recordings, and it's the main reason that you feel the 32 bit version is a bit warmer:

The volume difference between the two MP3s is extreme. For some reason, the 32 bit recording is twice as loud as the 64 bit version. The 32 bit is at the level it should be, and when music is at maximum volume like that, it has more presence and warmth. In contrast, the 64 bit recording is far too low in its level, and so has an anemic sound, making it less everything - less warm, less effective, - less.

Why there's such a discrepancy between the two recordings is a mystery. Maybe you purposely mixed them at different levels, but I doubt that. Somehow the volume slider was where it should be in the first version, and it slipped to half way down for the second.

I did a screen shot that has the two recordings paralleling each other in Sound Forge. You can clearly see the extreme difference in volume levels. 32 bit is on top:

Randy, thank you very much for your elaboration.

Certainly, the volume is different. It was not intentional and maybe because I adjusted it with different machine set up. I will try readjustment of 64-bit version.
