    Is This A Virus???

    Hi Everyone ...

All I am seeing this morning are responses (sometimes pages and pages of them) from "crymnrict" ... I'm guessing it's Greek, but it is crashing Bablefish everytime I tried to look at one.

The top dozen or so posts all have comments from this account, as well as many new threads.

Is anyone else experiencing this?? If not, I've got one hell of a virus! No other site seems affected.

    Hi Frank,
I see his/its comments ( "crymnrict" ) But I don't read them - Greek or Russian). Since I don't know what babelfish is, I can't help you there. Wish there was a way we could ignore these intrussions and put a block on it.

I am getting hundreds of tweets from the site, one after the other, with a lot of them in Russian- or a least Cyrillic script. It's not you, then, but its not much help

It translates in Russian as ads for a porn site. I have sent responses to the admin about these.

I think if folks on the forum just ignore these spam posts maybe they will become less frequent. Wishful thinking?

    Hi Bill,

Not glad you (and others) saw it too, but relieved it's not just my headache. I see they're gone now, so great.

Babel Fish is a free text/language translator (I believe from Yahoo).

Now we need to write a sci-fi score for 'its' intrussion of our defenseless forum .

Hey, maybe something good could come from this bot invasion. I know, a competition for a sci-fi movie score with an original video.

Well, I saw the post a while back, and read it, struggling with my primitive disused Russian skill, and recognized it as spam for a porn site, and ignored it, expecting it to be deleted, as it soon was. It did not occur to me that it was also a danger, so I did not alert anyone for fear of being considered an alarmist busybody. I do apologize to all for failing to sound the alarm.

Actually, I did not want to be patronized again as I was some years ago when I made three attempts to alert our county library system that there was a back door into their system area, and they were open for serious trouble. They brushed me off, but I was vindicated when a hacker did just what I warned them about, although they deny any warning.

FWIW, I use Microsoft Security Essentials as my main virus defense along with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I update their virus definitions frequently, and usually run quick scans every week and full scans every month or so. These things, plus the Windows Firewall, keep things under control.
